Transdisciplinary Courses: Pre-training Workshop for Students

We are thrilled to share that before launching our newly developed courses on transdisciplinary problem-solving, we ran an engaging and insightful introductory program designed to prepare our students for the unique learning journey ahead.

The introductory program was developed with several key objectives in mind:

– Building connections: We wanted students joining from three Thai universities and various disciplines to feel comfortable with one another, fostering a supportive and collaborative learning environment from the outset.
– Understanding transdisciplinary practice: Ensuring a common understanding of transdisciplinary practice was crucial. We explored how this approach will be utilized throughout the courses and its significance in tackling complex, real-world problems.
– Clarifying learning objectives: It was important for students to understand what they would learn and the experiences that would facilitate this learning, including those that might be challenging.
– Setting expectations: We emphasized the importance of participating in classes with students and instructors from diverse backgrounds and established clear rules and expectations.
– Self-monitoring: Students were guided on how to monitor their own learning progress.
– Future relevance: We highlighted how transdisciplinary practice would be vital in their future work.
– Commitment to development: We aimed to instill a commitment to continually developing the skills and competencies essential for transdisciplinary practice.

The program covered several crucial components to ensure a comprehensive understanding of transdisciplinary practice:

– Real-world importance: We discussed why transdisciplinary practice is essential for the future of all of us and its relevance in solving global challenges.
– Competencies and expectations: Students were introduced to the core competencies of transdisciplinary practice and what to expect from their learning experiences.
– Teamwork strategies: Effective strategies for transdisciplinary teamwork were shared to enhance collaboration and problem-solving.
– Guidelines and course overview: Clear guidelines and expectations were provided, along with an overview of the courses.

This introductory program was a vital step in ensuring our students are well-prepared and enthusiastic about the unique challenges and opportunities that our new transdisciplinary problem-solving courses will present.
